My Best Friends Loss~Fire!!
I have so wanted to get here and blog for the last few days...but there just has not been the time!
My best friend lost her home to fire on Thursday night.
She has a neighbor who is in her 90's and she has tried to look out for her. At the beginning of the week she saw a young man hanging around the ladies house after dark. The way the homes are built, no one has back porch lights....so my friend got a heavy duty ext cord and hooked up a light in her back yard to help keep the sneeky kid away.
A few nights later she and her family turned on the light and went to get ice cream....they came home 15mins later to find their home in flames.
She had two cats that were the love of her life....after 2 hours of fighting the blaze a firefighter came out with her white cat all black with soot and wrapped in a wet towel, but alive....5 mins later here came the other one.
She called me while the house was still burning (took a total of 4 hours to put it out) and told me they saved her kittys.
The next morning I went to meet her a once was her home. When I pulled up, we both broke down in total emotion. (as some of you may remember, I went through this with my mother 2 years ago) I am not new to what fire can do to a home and a family!
I held her close to me, and she ask...."What am I going to do now"
I told her that we were going to get through this together and I PROMISED her that everything was going to be ok!
The next few days are a blur...as hour lead into hour and the lack of sleep took its toll.
But we sifted through the ruins of her home and pulled bits and pieces out of the ashes.
She had rented the house and did not have renters insurance :(
Red Cross helped and put her and her family in a hotel until today (Monday)
I got on the ball and posted on a board that has become like family to us.....little did I know the out pouring of love that would come from there!
I am still in shock at the help people have been willing to give!
Fund raisers have sprung up, one gentleman drove from Cleveland to Dayton to bring her a new laptop.
One couple drove from Pittsburgh with a car LOAD of stuff and almost $900.00 in cash they had collected.
Others have set up benifits bringing in money, gift cards and other household things she needs.
I have been overwhelmed with emotions by the kindness of others trying to help my friend!
The true heart of someone shows when someone else is in need!
I have so much more I want (need) to say....but, sleep has not been kind....but I do plan to add to this.
So *PLEASE* keep my girl and her family in your thoughts and prayers!
A fire can take all you love and hold close to you!
THANK GOD~She and her family are safe and no one was hurt!
Part Two will follow soon.
Kisses
