And now, for something completely different....
The good mood in downtown Chicago was truly a amazing sight last night. I feel compelled to write about politics and my thoughts regardless of my political persuations and just spew some things.
Historic keeps being used to describe this event and of course there has never been an african american president but its historic for many other reasons too.
The analysts are already talking about the reasons Obama won but I must say he has mobilized the nation into a huge wave of first time voters, party switchers and activists never seen in my time. In fact the last time there was so much enthusiasim for the election Nixon was elected.
While I was attending a polical thing to assist others in voting the participants were trained in how to handle electioneering, unfair practices etc. the class who was about to vow to maintain fair and ethical voting was told that buttons, clothing, signs, etc must remain at a certain distance from the polling place as 90% of them where wearing Obama clothing.
Cook county IL, a a county so democratic that a republican is like a space alien sends democrates to the suburban fringes because they cant be found and republicans in because they are so rare, Hey you gotta have two parties at each election to make it fair right?
For the first time I can recall, coverage of what other nations prefer was in mainstream media.
The first African-American president was raised in a white family, knew little of his African family and indeed his ancestors held slaves and he is first generation American on his fathers side and does not share the American African African experience that lead Oprah to tears, that lead Jesse Jackson to tears that led many to swear they would never see the day that an African American would hold the highest office.
If ever there was a time when hope and inspiration could carry a nation this is it. There will be a very dramatic shift. I mean that in the past there were promises of change and they didnt happen all that much because moving an entire system is so hard but this time it will happen, the machine is a new model.
I for one am very excited to see the next four years unfold. I call on Ciara to help with one little detail. Did you see Michelles dress? Ciara call her and help her out, what was she thinking?

Stupid is
Sometimes there is no denying the truth even when you try very hard. Deep down you know the answers to your questions and waste time trying to figure out the why.
I had a talk with a not so close friend at work the other day and thought to myself that its so amazing how wise and kind women are. She mentioned something I really knew deep down but just didnt want to think about. I had a clarity moment and now I am forced to really think things out.
How rude life is when you need it to be, yikes. At my advanced age I just discovered that being nice does not get you what you need or want, asking for it does.

Chicago, my kind of vampire
I love Chicago I really do. I live in the burbs but always say I am from the city when out of towners ask where I am from. Its so beautiful, so alive soooo everything except something about it burns me up. Its the parking situation. I was in the city the other day and got a parking ticket. So whats the big deal you say? Well there seems to be a law about parking during rush hour. The mystery is that none of the other cars got tickets, there is no visible sign stating you may not park during rush hour etc. The fine for my wicked behavior is a whopping $60. Chicago has a rush hour that lasts 5 hours, I managed to nail it while parked for only 45 minutes. I consider Chicago a money vampire. Fast forward to today. Freshly fearful of my recent ticket I parked my car, put my two quarters in the metter and bought myself two luxurious hours of parking time. Oh yes I looked all over for signs and everything seemed to be ok. When I returned I saw that I still had plenty of time left and was so relieved. However I had fed the wrong meter and yes, again another ticket. This one was only $3. The burbs arent so bad after all.
